Anecdotally, here in Canada, people are quite explicit in linking Conservative/anti-immigrant voting to the issue of housing shortage. "I like immigrants but Toronto is full" is a mainstream sentiment, which has the virtue of both being intellectually defensible/a real thing people believe and also functioning as a nice cover for people who have more nativistic reasons for opposing immigration.
Great article. Another implication of this is that while Trump making gains in Florida and New York doesn’t help his presidential ambitions, it may help Republicans down ballot. This would increase the likelihood that even if Harris ekes out a win she likely won’t have a congressional majority to do much with it.
